Terms of Use

Last updated: 13 July 2026.

By using haptics.md — the website, the patterns, the format specification, the CLI, or any related tooling (together, the Project) — you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Project.

The Project is open source

The Project's code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. The haptic pattern snippets in the registry are released under CC0 1.0 (public domain), so you can copy them into any project without attribution. You may use, copy, modify, and distribute the Project under those licenses. See the LICENSE and NOTICE in the repository.

Provided “as is”

The Project is provided AS IS, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You use it at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the maintainers are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Project.

Draft status

The specification is versioned haptic/0.1-draft and is explicitly unstable. Fields, defaults, and behaviors outside the two frozen contracts — the intent vocabulary and the degradation contract — may change, including in breaking ways, before a 1.0 release. Do not treat draft-stage details as stable.

No patent clearance

Apache-2.0's patent grant covers only patents held by contributors on their own contributions. It does not provide freedom to operate against third-party haptic patents. The Project's patterns are built only from public, documented platform APIs, with no clearance guarantee. See PATENTS.md. Any freedom-to-operate assessment for your product is yours to make.

Acceptable use

Use the Project lawfully, and do not misrepresent your project as the official haptics.md or as endorsed by it. When you build on the accessibility and braille work, follow the honesty principles in the docs: do not overclaim what phone haptics can deliver, and do not frame haptic braille as a replacement for screen readers or refreshable braille displays. It is a complementary channel.

Names and marks

“haptics.md” and “Bimbi-Digital,” and any associated logos, are not granted by the code and content licenses. You may refer to the Project by name to describe compatibility (“supports haptics.md,” “reads .hap.md files”). You may not use the names or marks to imply official status or endorsement. See GOVERNANCE.md.

The hosted site

The website at haptics.md is provided for reference. It fetches its public GitHub star count from the GitHub API when a page loads; otherwise it is a static site with no accounts and no data collection.

Changes

These terms may change as the Project matures. Material changes will be noted in the repository. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
